Community Outreach
In the great commission, Jesus clearly indicated that the church needed to go "out!" Over the past couple of decades, the church in general has had more of an "ingrown" personality. We have focused most of our attention on an "attractional" model rather than focusing on our mission. To that end, The Bridge is in the process of balancing our ministry to focus more on what we can do outside of the walls of the church.
In order to facilitate a more "missional" approach to our ministry we have decided to come along side a number organizations outside the church. First, we have partnered with McCandless High School, an alternative high school for students who don’t quite fit into the regular school system. We come alongside both the students and faculty to uplift, encourage and support through not only finances where needed, but with personal encouragement of both students and teachers. Second, we have partnered with the Cerebral Palsy Center. Recently, CPC needed paint, but could not afford to pay for the project or do the work. The congregation of The Bridge came alongside CPC and we painted their facility in two days at no cost to them! Third, we have an extensive food ministry. Once a month, our College and High School students meet to pack grocery bags and hand deliver them to over 80 shut-ins! With the increasing need for food in our community, we also open up our Food Bank every Monday from 9.00am to 11.00am and hand out food to an ever increasing number of folks. Our desire to take the ministry of the Bridge outside its walls in only in its infancy stages!
